Rugby has an interesting relationship with my husband Michael. Michael is one of the kindest, calmest, non-threatening people I have ever met. He’s just like an old shoe that doesn’t rub you raw anywhere. He’s a great guy, and he loves Rugby a lot.
Rugby, however, has a bit of a love/hate relationship with his daddy. It’s clear that the trust just isn’t there with him, so there are times when Rugby can get pretty snarky with Michael over things I can do all day long without incident. Some days Michael can snuggle with Rugby on the sofa, and other days, Rugby gets hateful over the very same things! It’s a puzzlement to be sure! So, over the years, we’ve learned safe ways for Michael to handle Rugby….which keep Michael safe, and keep Rugby calm and relaxed around him.
This photo and video was taken in early May, and it’s an absolute favorite of mine. Rugby was sitting with his Daddy, just as happy as he could be….enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of our back yard. It’s just a wonderful video of Rugby in a sweet, calm state, just pleased that his Uprights were outside with him, and doing something he really wanted to do….enjoy the big backyard!
And even though I was sitting right next to Michael, Rugby chose to sit with his daddy, and that just made me smile. It doesn’t happen very often, and when it does….it’s often really sweet.
Happy Father’s Day to all of the wonderful dog dads out there. And to one extra special dogger daddy in East Tennessee….a very special shout out from Rugby James!
